Our project is run over a periode of 3 months, 2 times a year. The project is lead by Frank D Mollel, who is also known as the Masai Diver. You can read a little bit more about who Frank is here; The Masai Diver
The course runs with 6 - 8 students, from Matemwe area. Most Zanzibaris living in Matemwe area are born to be fishermen. This goes back through many generations, and therefore the course is designed for the young Zanzibari, who is the new generation to come and who will pave the way for a more sustainable relationship with the ocean.
The students will be taught from #PADI Open Water to Rescue Diver, and the specialities of Fish ID and Peak Performance Buoyancy. For the duration of the course they will visit different NGO's on the island such as Mnarani Turtle Sanctuary and Marine Culture, just to mention a few. The project also organizes smaller beach clean-ups throughout the 3 months periode.
Each course will monitor and enchance the aritifial reef, which is placed in front of Sunshine Marine Lodge. By monitoring and doing coral restoration, the project hopes to provide information to assist and understanding, how perserving the oceanic life and corals is more beneficial for the local enviroment.
